The Interior of the St. George Sanctuary

The worship-space of an Orthodox Church is a sacred space which is highly decorated with icons (paintings) illustrating the holy Gospel. St. George has one of the most beautiful sanctuaries in Louisiana.  Visitors are welcome! Call 222-5225 for a church tour.

The icon called "The Sign" or in Greek, Platytera ("Encompassing the Heavens") depicts Christ in the womb of the Mother of God. She welcomes all the universe to participate in the grace and salvation of Christ, her hands uplifted in prayer.

The largest icon in the sanctuary is the Christ Pantokrator, “Ruler of the Universe.” In this icon, which is directly overhead, Christ holds the Book of Life in His powerful hands, through which the Universe was created. He will come soon to judge the living and the dead. Let us pray to be among those who are found worthy of Life!
