St. George Greek Orthodox Church, Shreveport, Louisiana
A Parish of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America

Bible Studies and Catechesis

Bible studies and catechesis (studies of Orthodox faith and tradition) are conducted at St. George for adults, young adults, and children. Sunday School for young adults and children follows the Divine Liturgy on Sundays during the adult coffee hour. Studies for Adults are conducted on Wednesday evenings following Small Vespers, for limited periods (three to six weeks per topic). Small Vespers is held at 6:00 pm, with catechesis following.

Persons who wish to join the Orthodox Church through the sacraments of Holy Baptism and/or chrismation should meet with Fr. Brendan to discuss their preparation.  A series of classes for catechumens will be conducted for eight weeks each Fall, Spring and Summer.

Adult discussion groups meet on Sunday evenings at 6:00 pm at Starbuck's on Line Avenue. The men's and women's groups meet separately on alternate Sundays. Presvytera Sharon Pelphrey coordinates the women's group and Fr. Brendan meets with the men. These groups are informal and are intended to promote discussion and questions about Orthodox faith and tradition.

Please check the Calendar page to make sure of the dates for the Wednesday classes. If you have any questions, please call the Church Office at 222-5225 Monday-Thursday 9:00am to 12:00pm or ask Fr. Brendan on Sundays following the Divine Liturgy.
